Sell your Products!

W

hen promoting a product, really sell it! Although the page title needs to grab attention and you need to focus your visitor on the main points of the product, it is more likely to be sold if you put in the time and effort to go into detail about the benefits of owning the product or service.

This is particularly true when a visitor is shopping for an information product. If the item seems to meet their needs then questions will arise as they read your copy.

The product detail page needs to answer those questions, if the page is achieving this then the visitor will spend longer and become more interested. This in turn leads to desire, now its time to give them justification as to why now is the best time to buy.

If the page lets them go without a fight the chance of a return visit is minimal so in all probablilty the sale is lost.

I recommend a largish picture of the product (which can be enlarged still further). In addition I would include supporting pictures, editor or customer reviews (don't include the bad ones though). Balanced reviews are best, and full-length descriptions of the product with easy access to your buy button all help.

Finally selling at the right price, looking and being trustworthy, offering a reasonable returns policy, being open about everything (no small text) all engender a sense of security. This is what you want, absolutely no reason to leave without buying.

"engender a sense of security"

At the time of writing most people STILL don't fully trust the security or e-commerce on the net (even though they will phone their card details through!?!). So anything that comforts these people is a plus.

Going back to adwords for a minute. You will be amazed at how well your products will sell if you place specific adverts on adwords for specific items.

For example a headline with "JVC 1006V TV" is more specific than "JVC TV". People clicking on that ad will expect to be taken to a page on your site only talking about that specific JVC model of TV. Just present the item in all its glory and make it easy to purchase and its job done. I've seen this work time after time. Easy really.
