his is in decline. It would seem
that obvious adverts are being ignored, subtle
advertising (like text links), or gimmick led
advertising (big animated screens) are generating
more traffic at the moment.
It is up to
your negotiating powers to land an advert in a
prominent place, which will generate traffic
through its relevancy. Ask for impression rates
(no of times a page is visited) and click through
rates (no of times previously placed adverts
generate traffic). Compare several companies to
get the best deal.
Google offer a text or picture based Banner advertising porgram called
Adsense.
Here you pay by number of impressions and not click-throughs. The beauty of their system is that
its self policeing.
If you spray your advert around inappropriate sites then you'll be paying a lot for each
click you get (i.e. because you'll be getting through many impressions before someone clicks on
you advert). However if you only place your ad on very targetted specific sites, then you may find
that this is the cheapest form of advertising.
By this I mean using magazines, newspapers etc. At the time of writing advertising its self is in the middle of a downward cycle so there are plenty of bargains to be had if you are prepared to haggle.

Skilful placement of tempting
offers, links, products etc are a very effective
means of converting visitors to customers.
Techniques include sending a regular
newsletter, or html based e-zine (which can
include pictures of your products), and regularly
changing the site content will encourage repeat
visits.
