nline, the quickest way of finding
cheap adverts is to study pay per click search
engine placement or search engine advertising. I would start with
Google as most search traffic goes there.
You
are looking for opportunities where competition
for keywords that relate to your business is low,
yet potential visitor count (and ROI) is high. That's not going to be easy, but you will
probably find that lots of niche phrases (3 words or more) are a lot cheaper
than one or two word phrases.
By putting in extra effort and setting up seperate groups of
keywords per core one word keyword, the real bargains will reveal themselves.
For example if the core keyword was "construction" then a seperate
advert group for "London Construction contracts", only including keywords that tightly
match that three word phrase will save money and increase your click through ratio.
A high CTR is definitely the aim. Google will reward you and you'll pay less per click
in the long term. I plan to cover this in more detail on totaly adwords related pages at a later date.
So how do you find these keywords? I recommend using the same tools that you would for
web optimisation.
Spend some time finding out which keywords appear to be cheap before committing
a little of your funds. Ultimately as soon as you see an acceptable ROI per visitor then its
safe to crank up the expenditure.
I've used this technique of refinement and multiple groups time and time again to
drive down the costs of CPC campaigns. All this at a time when a lot of press would have you believe its getting
too expensive to run CPC campaigns.

There are several means
of obtaining free adverts, where the only cost is
your time and effort.
Top of the list has
got to be Press releases. Involve magazines,
newspapers etc.
The trick here is to make
the launch of your business newsworthy. Starting
up a new business in its self is not usually
deemed newsworthy.
Also a little tip is to point your adverts to a specific and unique directory on your site.
i.e. yoursite.com/offer, then using google analytics you can see how many people responded to that
offline advert.
I would recommend
reading more about PR. The purpose of this
paragraph was to draw your attention to the
possibility.
